Her first game …
This morning was xxPlankton’s very first soccer practice/game. I am pleasantly surprised to announce that my daughter did not run screaming from the field in tears. Her team’s name is the Purple Butterflies. I know what you are thinking. The name will do little to strike fear into the hearts of the teams they are playing. However, you should know that the other name they were considering was the Purple Princesses. In my opinion they made the right choice. In the spirit of their team name, xxPlankton has begun a steady diet of milkweed, just like Monarch butterfly larva, to ensure her toxicity.
It’s hard to describe these soccer matches. Each team has five players, and they only field three at a time. There’s no goalie. There’s no positions. Basically, the girls are instructed to get in there and kick their little hearts out. Oh boy, did they ever. xxPlankton tried her hardest. I can already tell that she inherited her father’s athletic gift, or lack thereof. However, that’s fortunate. Every single time that I have convinced GirlPlankton to venture onto a softball field, we ended up spending the night in either an urgent care or emergency room. Hopefully I’m mistaken and she develops into an athlete like her grandfather instead.
I honestly think that she had a good time. There are lots of smiles in the photos that I took which support my hypothesis. She was a little disappointed because her team scored fewer goals than the other team, but it wasn’t a big deal. Now I’m looking forward to taking her next weekend.
