Passing through …

Zark, Thanksgiving 2006

Zark came to town this weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. He also intended to use this break from school to study for his upcoming finals. Subsequently, I kidnapped him this afternoon and took him to have lunch with Dan. Probably the most interesting thing that I learned this afternoon was Zark’s unique study technique. Basically, and you’ll totally get this if you know Zark, he associates the stuff he needs to memorize in class with Disney trivia.

Another one bites the dust …

This is a story about a couch. A good couch, and one with a long history. Originally owned by Ray and Jeanette. They gave it to Dan when they moved away from Utah in 1999. For a while it lived with Dan and I in Salt Lake City. The couch moved in with Girl Plankton and I shortly after we were married. We lived with it in Bountiful for two years. In 2003, once again it took up residence with Dan back in Salt Lake. For three years they co-existed in peace and harmony.

Nobody knows the exact reasons why, but all that changed on Friday November 17th 2006 when Dan picked up a box cutter and a hammer. Descriptions vary, but the witnesses agree that he tore at the fabric of the couch with the box cutter and used the hammer to tear apart the wooden pieces of the frame. In the end, he coldly deposited the remains of the couch in the garbage chute of his apartment complex. All that remained were three cushions:

Show me the money!

Roger called me last week and asked if I wanted to invest any money in his upcoming Vegas expedition.  I promised to provide a modest amount of funding in the endeavor.  This afternoon he called to inform me that he was returning home and had earned a 25% profit on my initial investment.  The moral of the story?  The next time Roger heads to Sin City I need to give him more than a dollar.

Casino Royale

Bonds and Babes

This weekend we threw a little party to celebrate the new Bond movie Casino Royale. The rules were simple, come dressed as your favorite Bond character.  Amazingly, 8 out of the 12 attendees dressed up.  After the movie we went to Roosters in Layton for dinner.

About the movie. It was fantastic. It doesn’t really seem like a movie because the pace of storyline is so much more like the book. Most people agreed that the poker game seemed to drag on, I felt that it was done just right. In my opinion it was most of the action scenes that dragged on. In other words, it’s a long movie. It’s long because it has to be. They didn’t shortchange us on story or action.
